TEST DRIVE MEME

You probably know the drill by now. If you don't, here's a quick rundown: test drive memes are a game's way of gauging interest and such. It's a way to play around in the environment without the commitment of apping, maybe see how well that character you're considering gels with the setting. This one will be open indefinitely, or at least until further notice. You don't need to be apped to the game to test drive a character, or even reserved, or even want to reserve. However, if your interest is indeed piqued, reserves are thisaway, applications thataway.

As of this writing, we don't consider anything that happens in the TDM canon unless you'd like to transfer any threads that happen here to the main comms (provided they don't interfere with pre-established game events, of course). TDM threads are just a way to get a feel for a game, or in case you need that pesky writing sample for an app in progress. We don't recommend you do a standard intro post, however - save that for the game proper!

We don't have a set entry date for the game proper just yet. Once we accumulate some interest, we'll be sure to let you know!

Some resources we recommend that you check out if interest continues to abound:

PROMPTS:

i. do you hear the people sing?
You've heard the rumors circulating about Atlas and his bandits for months. Even the upper echelons of Rapture's high society were having trouble burying their concern under the careful veneer of professionalism. What you didn't expect was an open attack. You'd just been passing by, but the poor souls who lived and shopped and made their living on this street have just found their entire livelihood set aflame. People are saying it's a bombing, while others protest that it must have been something down in maintenance.

Right now, it doesn't really matter one way or the other. The homes and storefronts have been reduced to sheeting flame as hairline cracks go cobwebbing up the glass, the only thing separating the city from a watery grave. Whether you choose to get the hell out of dodge or help the wailing survivors is up to you, but regardless of what you choose to do, this section of Rapture is rapidly coming apart at the seams.

ii. who's your daddy?
You've no clue whose bright idea it was to tail the Little Sister. It might have been some gang of spliced-up nobodies thirsty for some extra ADAM. It might have been your best friend's idiot plan. Hell, it might have even been yours. All you know is that no matter how appealing the thought seemed at the time, you and yours are in for a world of hurt. The Little Sister just had to shriek once and her armored protector came barreling into the scene, drill humming to life with a sinister whine. Guilty as charged or caught in the crossfire, you're in for the fight of your life with a Big Daddy, one of the most dangerous things in Rapture. Good luck.

iii. a part of the masterpiece
Fort Frolic, they say, is the hub for creative artistry. Sander Cohen is either a wildly inspired artistic genius or a madman depending on who you ask, but the alcohol runs the same no matter how you slice it. For tonight, the Fort is yours to enjoy at your leisure. Take a gander, gamble everything you've got, have a drink, maybe sit in for a show. The only thing Cohen loves more than his exclusivity is rampant attention, and tonight he's on full display. He's even torturing - er, entertaining a lucky pair of dancers in Fleet Hall! Don't mind the wires threaded in and out of their clothing, doubtless unspooled over all those important parts of the nervous system and ready to unleash a burst of fatal electricity at a moment's notice. They've got to be just for show.

One thing is certain about the possibly-deranged Sander Cohen, after all: he certainly keeps you on your toes!

iv. wild card! make up your own scenario

We prefer third-person, present tense prose, but if you're just in it for the fun you can write in whatever floats your pontoon. Have fun!

Surveillance is for losers and Autobots, so, yeah, none of that scrap for Deadlock, thanks. But when the ground jumps like that, and he hears the creepy glass cracking sound, Deadlock hits the streets looking for FLashpoint. Because he's above surveillance, but not above, you know, stalking. What? He knows Flashpoint has a tendency to do stupid scrap that might get her killed.

She promised she wasn't gonna die on him, and he's gonna make sure she keeps that promise. Rawr.

He rolls up as she's yelling, of course, and pushes up to his own alt. "The frag happened to you this time?" He doesn't say 'tsk'--it's just heavily implied. Heavily.

Is this like that time he jumped off the parking garage roof just to land on that sniper? Because not gonna lie, that was pretty slick. ... And it was nice moves. Except for the part where he thought she needed saving.

She doesn't now either. Flashpoint's totally got this, steel girder in hand, trying to jam it into place to block the door shut. Except that sure is a big drill tip churning a hole through the metal door like it was soft cheese, metal screeching. "I just wanted to ask it the yellow eye glow thing was natural!!" What's wrong with that!?

"Because I'd rather not drown," he snaps, straining to keep the frenetic edge of panic from severing the word too harshly and failing utterly. He does not like the -

The bulkheads are swarmed with an uncontrolled surge of civilians, injured and destitute and screaming to be let out before the weight of the water proves to be entirely too much for the groaning support structure and floods the section of the city with a deluge of seawater. He tsks quietly between his teeth as he traces the fine latticework of cracks sprawling over the glass. The structural work here is shoddy at best, present time period notwithstanding. Vitreous materials are seldom wise when attempting to construct an architecturally sound structure at the bottom of the North Atlantic.

"You're free to risk joining the rest, if you like." He thrusts a hand to gesticulate vaguely at the seething throng heaping around the bulkheads.

Sitting around on your after doing nothing is for losers. Flashpoint is, in theory, being productive out here. Looks how her instincts put her in the right place at the right time!

Also this is way more exciting than anything else he could be doing. Except possibly the stalking. Just because she melted that one time! And got abducted and nearly left him all alone in a crusty, organic filled city. "I was just sitting here, minding my own business!"

Apparent she provokes explosive levels so excitement. That's the business she's minding now though, stepping towards the burning building, trying to scan for survivors.

[personal profile] you_look_weak 2015-10-29 11:44 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, sure, just staring around is totally productive. Maybe...for an Autobot!!

And being in the middle of an explosion is not the 'right place at the right time'--it's the 'worst place at the stupidest time'. Which is why he knew he'd find her there. Such are his unerring instincts about her unerring instincts.

"You? Minding only your own business." Did it suddenly get sarcastic in here or is it just him? "Don't tell me you're planning on going in there." Because it's a dumb decision so of course she is.

Newsflash, Flashpoint (newsflashpoint?): when you are getting shot at by a sniper and you have weird rubbery tires like she does...you need saving. Deadlock's special brand of saving, with extreme violence.

"Why? You jealous of its optic?" Because girls are weird and for all he knows.....

"Getting the feeling we just locked ourselves into a bad spot." Deadlock hates all feelings, but especially this one.

Drowning's more or less an abstract concept to her, from the Wasteland, but, well, looking at the creaking glass, she'd rather keep it that way.

At first she things the roaring crowd is water--the way their footfalls and voices ricochet around the space seems to froth like a giant wave of sound, like the water Immortan Joe sometimes--only sometimes--let fall from the Citadel's heights.

"Not much of a joiner," she says, after a glance at the running mob. "Have a feeling if there was someplace safe to run to, you'd've lit out for there before now." She could be wrong, but self preservation is a universal trait.
lottawork: (go away)

He shuts his eyes against the bright veins of white imprinted against the water's dark and runs mental inventory and deduces he has next to no mechanical means of solving the problem which does not bode well for his continued survival and therefore reduces the number of options from two to one.

That's fair fucking disappointing.

"Apologies," says Rush in a tone that implies the utter lack of any such thing, "I wasn't aware you've been psychoanalyzing my every action."

He stands swiftly and begins moving away.

"In any case, I concede your suggestion may be more reasonably applicable." He eyes the groaning structure warily. "The damage is spreading faster than that which any one person can fix independently."

He has little to gain from rescuing a lonely section of a city whose entire existence is well beyond his range of giving a fuck.
shitflashpointsays: (talking: snarky:)

[personal profile] shitflashpointsays 2015-10-30 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Her weird, rubbery tires can take more of a beating that Deadlock realizes, but that's okay, Flashpoint enjoys being underestimated. There's no way a simple soft silicate wound would slow her down, but the sniper didn't need to know that.

Though if Deadlock would shut up about it, that might her day. He is clearly jealous of her very voluptuous all-wheel drive.

"NO! That is the ugliest hulking metaloid mansuit I've ever seen! I'm talking about the little girl with him." Wherever the frag she went. Probably hiding in some other alley while her creepo bodyguard does the dirty work. And boy is it dirty.

Deadlock's volley does some damage, but is it just Flashpoint is that thing just madder now than it was before? "Depends on how agile Cageface here is!" Because Flashpoint is gonna make the same leap Deadlock did, window to window, while the hulking lug is slowed down by the door. Er, she hopes? This would be the worst possible time to get grabbed by the ankle. Hopefully Deadlock's found an exit over there, but his commentary doesn't instill hope!

If it collects sensitive and useful information then it is absolutely productive! Besides, certain STALKER TYPES shouldn't go chastising other people about 'staring around'. JUST SAYING.

Right, worst, stupid...kind of all the same thing in her book at times. Like now, when she sees an opportunity to actually be helpful instead of sitting around collecting rust. (Or is that just her imagination borne from being under thousands of metric tons of water?)

"Nefarious business is my business!" Because she said so; it's even part of her name Deadlock, come on! Also she's bored. "Damn right I am. Not gonna leave people to just roast." Having done it herself at Nyon, nope, wouldn't wish it on anyone. But oh, did her tone get a littler personal there? Time to cover that right up with something tasteless. "Besides, cooked human is nasty, or so I hear."

"Learned to survive by trying to figure people. If that's 'psychoanalyzing', it's not a bad thing." Whatever that is.

But this water, and the ominous sense of weight--so unlike the stone of the Citadel, which was threatening in its own way.

When he stands, so abruptly, she can't help but react, dancing back a step or two, hands coming up, ready to punch. "So what? Now you're all for running away?" She may juts punch him if it'll get some sense out of him.
you_look_weak: (Default)

[personal profile] you_look_weak 2015-11-03 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Excuse you, but the whole point of stalking isn't 'staring around'. It is very fixedly staring and intel gathering in a very specific dossier.

If you're nice to him, maybe he'll show you the dossier he's got on you. A big thick dossier.

And she's gotta lay off this 'helpful' business, when it comes to being 'helpful' to these gross organics. It never ends well, does it?

Oh frag, she did not just allude to Nyon, did she? "Maybe they'll just, I dunno. Rust. Whatever they do in water." Not his problem and stop trying to make him feel anything like charitable or nice.
shitflashpointsays: (grille shot)

[personal profile] shitflashpointsays 2015-11-03 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
UH HUH. Sounds an awful lot like her version of surveillance with an obsessive spin. CREEPY. Yet...flattering and hot at the same time? Clearly she's starved for attention.

And there better be a suitable amount of preparation if Deadlock's going to whip out that big thick dossier, but bring it on, Flashpoint is ready for him and all his cunning observations.

But shut up, one of them helped her once, she feels oddly obligated now okay? Also maybe down deep it's what she really wants to do in life. It feels better than killing people, Deadlock. Try it sometime, it's a little addicting.

But oh yes she did bring up Nyon. Burning alive to the melting point sucks, period. Don't make her share the details unless you're ready for a sudden influx of CARE. "They don't oxidize like that, they just kinda...over-saturate I think." Flashpoint's going in though, whether it ruins her paint job of not. At least the heat is still within tolerance levels for Cybertronians? But that sure is a cry for help up ahead. "Stay out here if it's too hot for ya."
you_look_weak: (what are you even)

[personal profile] you_look_weak 2015-11-05 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, fine, maybe Deadlock's just jealous that she surveils better than he does--by which he means she always manages to find trouble. When he tries it...he either stares at her bumper for six hours or nothing happens. Most of the time, both.

But it's okay if her reaction to his extensive, massive file on her is a moment of awed silence. He'd understand.

"Oversaturate?" The expression on his face says he does NOT wanna find out exactly what that looks like. "Sounds...gross." His favorite word!

"TOO HOT for me?" Did he just hear her right? Is that a challenge? Oh, no, Flashpoint, you get a Deadlock hot--see what he did there--on your heels!
shitflashpointsays: (profile: serious full helm)

[personal profile] shitflashpointsays 2015-11-09 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a skill Deadlock, one she's actually trained in. The surveillance that is. Getting into trouble is just an inherent talent Flashpoint has. He can be envious, yes.

Awed silence, check. But he better bet that some witty comment will follow that, because it wouldn't be Flashpoint otherwise. Maybe she'll ask him to publish her memoirs once she's dead? Would that rank in the top ten tactless things she's ever said?

"And uncomfortable." Porous exteriors: proving how weird organic systems really are. But they also burn to a crisp which is why she's here. And apparently she's got back-up because pushing Deadlock's challenge button is one she likes to do all too often. "If you're comin' be useful! Keep an optic on the structure and an escape route." Because these squishies can't tolerate nearly as much as they can.
you_look_weak: (say you don't want to chance it)

[personal profile] you_look_weak 2015-11-09 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah fine, flaunt your fancy training, Flashpoint. Deadlock's never been trained in anything but shooting and it's gotten him this far just fine.

If she made that memoir crack, Deadlock would throw things and remind her that she promised not to die. Mature responses are not his thing.

"Could give a scrap about comfort." Bloaty humans? Who cares! But gross! "IF I'm coming." Surely that's a joke, right? Of course he's coming. Because dare. "Can always make a fraggin' escape route." Because these walls don't look so sturdy to him.

shitflashpointsays: (Default)

[personal profile] shitflashpointsays 2015-11-12 03:39 am (UTC)(link)

Hush you, Mister Natural Talent. At least you never got threatened with mnemosurgery because you sucked at shooting and fighting in general.

She'd duck under the thrown objects, but it'd serve her right if Deadlock tagged her anyway. But hey, things get weird if she says nice things, remember that! So have tacky things instead, it's her natural talent.

"That's gonna be your job then, unless you wanna be the one to carry people outta here." Look she can delegate. Also she can spy the form of what looks like a human, maybe passed out in the next room. Flashpoint casually widens the doorway, casting a worried glance at the roof, plating twitching as embers bounce off of it. "Hang on!" The human only responds to her touch with a soft groan and Flashpoint gently gathers him up in her arms. Except he's not alone; there's another, smaller, figure beneath. One that coughs and looks up at them with wide eyes, reddened by smoke and tears.

you_look_weak: (this is not happening)

[personal profile] you_look_weak 2015-11-13 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
If anyone tried to threaten Deadlock with mnemosurgery, he'd've likely just ventilated their brain modules. So they probably thought it, but no one was dumb enough to say it in his range of hearing.

"Carry? Organics?" Ew, please, no. "Can't you just, you know, herd them?" ACK SHE'S TOUCHING ONE!!!
shitflashpointsays: (angry shout)

[personal profile] shitflashpointsays 2015-11-17 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but would he remember being threatened? SEEE!?!? Mnemosurgery is pure evil! And very hard on the paranoia muscle.

"No!" Flashpoint snaps, "She's helpless!" Actually the little girl is standing, looking up at Flashpoint wearily and shouting for her father, voice scared and almost threatening. "What are you doing with Daddy!?"
you_look_weak: (Default)

[personal profile] you_look_weak 2015-11-19 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
.....frag. That's a whole new level of paranoia. In fact, namaste, his paranoia bows in awe to hers.

"That's not my fault she's helpless! I didn't do it!" He's...yeah, he needs a refresher in Daring Rescue Heroics. "You don't think I'm gonna touch that!" See, little girl? He's too grossed out to be a threat.
shitflashpointsays: (talking: neutral)

[personal profile] shitflashpointsays 2015-11-21 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
She was slightly paranoid when she got here. She has since leveled up in the extreme while being in the dome. It's amazing she did't demand full body cavity searches when he came to visit her.

"It's your fault for just standing there!" Loser. At least that's what her face says, as she resolves to handle it herself. Flashpoint can't just scoop the girl up without losing a grip on the older man, so she bends down--trying to look as non-threatening as possible--and offers her arm to the girl, beckoning with a hand. "You want to go with him? Let's go it's not safe here!"
you_look_weak: (you've got o want to succeed)

[personal profile] you_look_weak 2015-11-22 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
NO body searches! Deadlock likes to keep his storage secret, thanks.

Deadlock gives that kind of grumble that's really more like an UGH!!! as she bends down to the little girl. Seriously, she is all up in these gross organics.

"You're better off with me, little...organic thing." He's even trying to look inviting. LOOK AT HIS COME WITH ME FACE. Who would turn that down? No one, even if they heard him whisper afterwards to Flashpoint, 'you're gonna hit the washracks after this, right?' because he sure is.
shitflashpointsays: (profile: shouting)

[personal profile] shitflashpointsays 2015-11-26 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Party pooper.

Deadlock can take his squeamishness and make a path out of here if he's so sickened. Flashpoint's got no such 'high' standards.

But seriously is that him trying? Actually trying? She'd think it cute, if the building wasn't raining embers around them and creaking suspiciously. "Hurry up!" she urges, the girl hesitating a moment, uncertain. Of course that's when part of the roof decides to collapse. Better act fast!
you_look_weak: (no not for pity's sake)

[personal profile] you_look_weak 2015-11-28 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
Parties aren't in his storage, Flashpoint. Somewhere else on him, yes.

But now he's wishing he was trying to taunt Flashpoint with tacky sexual innuendo, because this choice? Sucks. He hears the beam over his head start to groan. And sure, he can take some building hitting him, but he's pretty sure it would do bad things to the squishy.

"Don't fraggin' yell at me!" Seriously can she NOT see he's in the middle of some sensitive diplomacy right now?!?! "C'mon!" Sorry, squishy, you now have no choice, because Deadlock grabs her and throws her at him, transforming around her just as the beam starts to fall. Heroic rescue? Deadlock's got it.

shitflashpointsays: (Default)

[personal profile] shitflashpointsays 2015-11-29 12:42 am (UTC)(link)

Silly, this is why it's a full body cavity search, to find where the party is!

Oh wait no, that was supposed to be for security purposes. Yeah.

Good times over sexual innuendo taunts would be way for fun than this, and hotter in a good, more pleasant way too. It's not good times though so Flashpoint can yell at him if she wants. It gets a good result though apparently, because those are some nice moves, transforming around the passenger like that. Flashpoint's gonna pound after him on foot, but only because it's safer that way for the human, not because she lacks the bearings to try! Except the beam comes down on her just as they're exiting the room. She hunches down, curling around the human held to her chestplate to shield him, taking the brunt of it against her back with a grunt, then deflecting it away with her arm. "Keep going!" She's not letting this stop her and Deadlock better not either.
