It's when she's halfway to the mystery door that she hears that one word. Elizabeth looks back over her shoulder to see the being somehow holding back the massive Big Daddy and she has only a second to feel grateful before she bolts again. If this is a dead end she's really done herself in, and again she imagines Booker chastising her poor planning on coming in here to begin with. He wouldn't have made this mistake.
Elizabeth throws the door open and her relief is nearly palpable as she sees another thoroughfare on this side, almost like a back alley if this were a normal city layout. She has to trust that the girl will be alright and she dashes along this street looking for a better place to hide. Luckily there is a set of blockades hobbled together, by whom she doesn't know, and she ducks behind one and remains still. While she catches her breath she listens for the Big Daddy.
